Probably every girl dreams of beautiful and healthy skin, but sometimes the silky texture and radiance turn into an unattractive oily shine. In some cases, this is due to natural aspects, in others – improper care.
It is worth noting that oily skin is no better and no worse than normal or dry skin. The only difference between the two is the amount of sebum (superficial sebum) produced. Oily skin also has many benefits – for example, it will resist wrinkles much longer than dry skin. However, it requires careful and, above all, proper care.
Too aggressive scrubs
Oily skin can be very sensitive. Daily use of harsh exfoliators, as well as hard brushes and other tools, can lead to inflammation and irritation. In addition, excessive use of scrubs will only exacerbate the problem – having lost its natural protective layer due to frequent exfoliation, the skin will try to protect itself from external factors by secreting even more sebum.
Exfoliate dead skin cells no more than 2 times a week. And in this case, choose scrubs without large and hard particles. The best choice for this skin type is soft peels with a matte effect.
Not wearing moisturizers
Many girls think: why should I moisturize the skin, which is already oily? And this is one of the most common mistakes. Neglecting daily hydration will not reduce sebum production, quite the contrary. This stress on the skin will increase sebum production, as the skin cells will start to take care of moisture on their own.
Clogged pores with cosmetics
Some women with oily skin tend to get rid of the oil and cover up the acne with a thick layer of powder or foundation, which further clogs the pores. To break this vicious circle, you need a good primer or liquid foundation. Choose products that are labeled “non-comedogenic” – this means that this product will not cause acne or clog pores.
Also, opt for water-based foundations – your skin already has enough oil on it. Due to their light texture, they are ideal for the summer season. In order not to powder the T-zone every hour, purchase special matting wipes and use them as needed.
Not wearing the right sunscreen
Most sunscreens have a very thick, oily texture, which is why women with oily skin tend to avoid them. And they are right! After using such products in less than an hour, your face will shine like a pancake. In addition, the use of sunscreens is often followed by acne due to the comedogenic mineral oils they contain.
However, this does not mean that you should completely give it up. Today, many powders and foundations contain a sun protection factor (SPF) of 25, and for the beach, we recommend using light essences and refreshing sunscreen gels.
Alcohol
Oily skin is prone to acne. And what’s the best way to dry them? Alcohol, of course! That is why many girls rub their faces with tonics and other alcohol-containing products several times a day. However, their aggressive composition damages the skin and dries it out. As a response, you are likely to get even more sebum secretion as well as flaky skin.
In addition, no foundation, primer or powder rubs off on alcohol-dried skin. We also recommend avoiding ointments and creams based on salicylic acid.
